🐾 Week 3: Our Blueprint Continues to Grow!

Welcome to Week 3! As we continue settling into the 2026–2027 school year, we are building upon the relationships, routines, and expectations established during our first two weeks. Our Panthers are moving deeper into instruction, and our teachers and staff are continuing to create classrooms where students feel welcomed, challenged, supported, and connected.

As a reminder, please continue helping us by ensuring your Panther arrives at school on time each day, comes prepared to learn, and follows our schoolwide expectations. Every instructional minute matters, and the partnership between home and school remains an important part of our blueprint for student success.

This week, we officially launch Brown Reads: One Book with Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman! Each morning from 8:15–8:35 a.m., our Panthers will read together as we strengthen literacy, community, and belonging across LMBMS.

Families, join us by simply asking your Panther, “What did you read in Seedfolks today?” Look for additional Brown Reads information and family discussion prompts later in this newsletter.

We will begin Chromebook distribution for our 8th-grade Panthers on Thursday. 

Chromebooks will be distributed to students who have a completed Technology Agreement Form on file.

The Technology Agreement Form link is embedded in this newsletter for families who still need to complete it. Please complete the agreement as soon as possible so your student is ready to receive their device.

Additional information regarding Chromebook distribution for other grade levels will be shared as we continue the process.

As we enter Week 3, you may hear your Panther talking more about learning targets, academic vocabulary, classroom discussions, reading, writing, and working collaboratively with classmates. Our administrative team and instructional coaches are visiting classrooms regularly as we continue supporting teachers and strengthening instruction throughout LMBMS.

Our goal is for students to not only know what they are learning, but to have opportunities to talk about it, write about it, ask questions, use academic language, and demonstrate what they understand.

Strong relationships remain our foundation—but now we continue building upon that foundation with strong, engaging instruction for every Panther, every day.

During the month of September, we focus on the IB Learner Profile trait of Thinker. Thinkers demonstrate the ability to navigate complex challenges, address problems creatively, and make sound, responsible decisions.

Thinking skills show up in distinct ways across our academic subjects:

Across every subject, we cultivate both the character trait of a Thinker and essential thinking skills—known in the IB framework as Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.

Parents play a vital role in reinforcing these skills at home because learning and thinking do not just happen at school. We invite you to partner with us by engaging your child in conversations about what they are reading, discussing the mathematical problems they are solving, and encouraging the ongoing growth of their thinking abilities. Thinking shows up in behavior also. We want students to put their thinking into practice by making good choices, thinking before acting, solving conflicts appropriately, demonstrating self-control and prioritizing safety.

📚 Brown Reads: Seedfolks — One Book, One Panther Community!

Panther Parents and Caregivers,

We are excited to officially launch Brown Reads, our schoolwide reading initiative, on Tuesday, September 8! Our first schoolwide book is Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman, and our goal is simple: to bring our entire school community together through reading, conversation, and connection.

Each morning from 8:15–8:35 a.m., our Panthers will read Seedfolks as part of Arrival, Welcome & Breakfast. Through thirteen different characters, students will see how one small act—planting a few lima beans in a vacant lot—eventually brings together people from different cultures, ages, backgrounds, and experiences to create a community garden.

The themes of Seedfolks connect beautifully to what we want for our Panthers: belonging, community, perseverance, empathy, and understanding the impact one person can have.

🌱 Keep the Conversation Growing at Home!

Families, we want you to be part of Brown Reads, too! As your Panther progresses through the book, consider asking questions such as: What happened in today’s reading? Who was today’s character, and what did you learn about them? How did that character contribute to the community? What connections can you make between the story and our school or community? What is one “seed” you could plant—an action, idea, or act of kindness—that could make our community better?

These conversations do not have to be long. A few minutes of discussion at home can reinforce comprehension, encourage your child to share their thinking, and show that reading matters beyond the classroom.

At the conclusion of our first Brown Reads experience, students will be able to take their copy of Seedfolks home to add to their personal library.
