Happening at Lucille Brown

Last Week of School: June 5 - 9, 2023, is the last week of school for the 2022-23 school year! There will be no after-school or sporting events.

June 9th is an early release day, and students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm.

Chromebook Collection: All students should have returned Chromebooks and chargers by now. If your student hasn't already done so, please have them turn in their devices to Ms. Layne in the Library a.s.a.p..
This includes students who are attending summer school as well.

8th Grade Moving On Ceremony: Our 8th grade Moving On Ceremony is Thursday, June 8th. Doors to the ceremony will open at 10:30 a.m., and the ceremony will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m.

Upcoming Schoolwide Events: In addition to all of the end-of-year activities planned for each grade level, we have one remaining schoolwide event:

4th Quarter Gym Jam (June 7): Calling all students with no more than two absences and no actionable infractions after April 12, 2023! We look forward to seeing you this Wednesday at our 4th quarter Gym Jam! 

 

Date: June 8, 2023 at 11am (Doors open at 10:30am)

Location: Liberation Church, 5501 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond VA 23225.

  • Students may ride the bus from school to the venue!

  • Otherwise, bring your 8th grader to Liberation Church by 10:30am. 

  • NONE OF THE FOLLOWING ARE PERMITTED

    • NO FOOD or DRINKNO BALLOONSNO FLOWERSThis is to keep the venue clean and the way we found it! 

  • At this time, families will receive 3 tickets to attend the ceremony.

    • Students receive a survey that must be completed and returned by Wednesday, May 24th. 

    • Tickets will be distributed on Wednesday, June 1, 2023.

  • Dress Code: Semi-Formal or Business Casual

    • Preferred Colors: Royal Blue, Teal, or White

    • We just ask that students wear what they would wear to church, wedding, or professional setting. 

  • Students will be free to leave after the ceremony. Guardians/Caregivers will need to sign students out with a Staff member at the tables near the event space. 

  • Students will also be able to return to school after the ceremony on the school bus.

Student Addresses/Contacts: SOL results, final report cards, and immunization information will be mailed. If you have moved and have not notified the school, please do so as soon as possible.

Spring SOL Make-ups and Retakes: Students may make up or retake any Spring SOL between May 30th - June 5th. Students are eligible for a retake if they score between 375-399 on any SOL. If you would like your child to retake his or her SOL, please contact the school's Testing Coordinator, Ms. Henderson. The last day to make up or retake a Spring SOL is June 5th.

 

8th Grade Moving On Ceremony: Congratulations to our 8th-graders preparing to move on to high school! Our Elevation "Moving On" ceremony will be held at Liberation Church, on June 8th, at 11:00 am. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Bryant.

Upcoming Schoolwide Events: In addition to all of the end-of-year activities planned for each grade level, we have two schoolwide events planned as follows:

  • 4th Quarter Gym Jam (June 7): While all students may participate in the above-referenced events, student participation in the gym jam is contingent on two criteria: students may have no more than two absences and no actionable infractions after April 12, 2023.

June Fire Drill: Our school will conduct one fire drill sometime between May 30th through June 9th. I will announce that we are conducting a drill over the PA system. Teachers and students will be instructed to follow RPS drill protocols.

After-school Activities Pick-up: Attention caregivers! If your child remains after school for NextUp, tutoring, games, practices, or clubs, please pick them up at the bus loop (Door 19) along Blakemore Rd. This is where our coaches, teachers, and security staff are waiting, with students waiting to be picked up. Please only park and wait for students by the bus loop, located by door 19.

After-School Tutoring: Does your child need additional support in English, math, or science? If you are interested in having your child participate in after-school tutoring, please click on the following link to access the parent informational letter for more information and to sign up.

Conexus Mobile Vision Lab: If your child is scheduled to receive a pair of glasses from Conexus, distribution of the glasses will take place on May 23rd.

School Closing: All RPS schools and offices will be closed Monday, May 29th, in observance of Memorial Day.

Last Day of School: The last day of school is Friday, June 9th, which is also an early release day. As such, students will be dismissed at 1:15 pm.

2023-2024 Required Immunizations: Vaccines required for rising 7th-graders (current 6th graders) for the 2023-2024 school year are as follows:

  1. Meningococcal
  2. Tdap
  3. HPV (optional)

  • Attend tutoring sessions as recommended by their classroom teacher

  • Refrain from bringing personal electronic devices into SOL testing rooms
